The intern will conduct legal research on issues of dependency and delinquency matters; draft motions to transfer to Superior Court; Children in Need of Services (CHINS); draft memos to the judges detailing the research; attend and observe Family Treatment Court, Zero to Three, Parent Accountability Court, CORE; attend and observe court hearings.

Job Description:

Park Place Outreach, Inc., provides shelter and support for runaway, homeless, and at-risk teens, ages 11-21. The intern would be working primarily in the Transitional Living Program, and 18-month intensive residential program for males ages 16-21, with the goal to transition homelss males to independence and self-sufficiency. The Program Director has an MPH from Johns Hopkins and will be supervising the intern. The primary responsibilities will be:

  • Program Evaluation: Formalize program evaluation process, develop/identify systems for daily/monthly data collection, and create a blueprint for end of year reporting (annual report);
  • Health Education: nutrition and performance training series (mental and physical)
  • Qualitative Research and Literature Review: Understand participants' perspectives on their experience with TLP programs (programming, program rules, preparation for self-sufficienc, etc.) Purpose: help refine service delivery;
  • Identify grants based on needs we identify, such as housing, signature TLP jackets, mission trips, transportation to jobs off bus line, etc.
Qualities:

Currently enrolled in a graduate MPH program and returning to school in the fall to continue degree requirements. Must have completed at least one full academic year by the beginning of the internship. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale. Preferred Interests: General MPH, Program Evaluation, Formative Research, Health Education.

Other: Any transportation that is required can be done in a company vehicle; personal use of vehicle not required beyond normal daily commute. Park Place Outreach is in Savannah, GA, approximately 3.5 hours from Atlanta and only 20 minutes from the beach. We have many colleges nearby, so housing may be obtained through subletting with a college student. Park Place is located near downtown Savannah and on a main bus line.

Job Description:

The intern will work closely with the Judge and Court personnel to review files, pleadings, service requirements, and to draft and review orders. The position does NOT include direct-client interaction. However, the intern will have much court-observation for Dependency and Delinquency proceedings and to interact with the attorneys and staff on the cases. The intern will also attend court-related meetings such as Treatment Team, Multi-Team Disciplinary Meeting, etc., and to visit community partners such as the visitation center, child advocacy center, etc.

Qualities:

The intern must have excellent research and writing skills, be observant, and willing to ask many questions. The intern will hae broad access to the Court files and must be willing to hold all information confidential. Intern must be comfortable with changing tasks and varied projects and spending time shadowing different attorneys.

Other:

Paulding County is on the edge of metro Atlanta and independent transportation is essential. There is no public transportation in our area. Paulding County courthouse is approximately 40 miles NW of Emory School of Law. The intern would have to find own housing as the housing options are consistent with a sub-urban area. Job Description:

The intern will be responsible for drafting orders, conducting legal research, accompanying the supervising attorney to court and on home visits to meet with children on our caseload.

Qualities:

The ideal intern cannot be shy, enjoys observing court, isa fast learner and wants to get real courtroom experience. Good legal writing skills are a must.

Other:

Because we are located in Douglas County, west of Atlanta (about 40 minutes outside Interstate 285 (the Perimeter), our intern must have reliable transportation. There is no public transportation to our area. For a short term rental, we suggest looking in areas such as Smyrna, Vinings, or the City of South Fulton. Use Craig's list or AirBnB as potential resources.
