Robin Nash Fellowship

The Barton Child Law and Policy Center at Emory University School of Law offers a one-year postgraduate fellowship designed for attorneys who possess a demonstrated interest in child welfare and juvenile justice issues.  The Robin Nash Fellowship recognizes the legacy of former Barton Center Director, the Honorable Robin Nash, and focuses on building the next generation of influential attorneys, judges, and community leaders specializing in juvenile law.  The 2012-2013 Robin Nash Fellowship will begin mid-August 2012 and continue through August 2013.

The 2012-2013 postgraduate fellow will participate in the expanded scope of the Barton Center in a variety of activities including (under faculty supervision):

  • Furthering the scholarship of the Center by researching and writing at least one article, policy paper, friend of the court brief, or other approved writing project of publishable quality on a topic relating to children in the juvenile court system;
  • Fostering the Center’s interdisciplinary approach through collaborations with child advocacy organizations, child-serving agencies, judges and juvenile court practitioners, policy-makers, and other professionals involved in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems;
  • Contributing to the Center’s policy and legislative advocacy by participating in on-going advocacy efforts at the Georgia General Assembly and with state agencies;
  • Supporting the Center’s instructional mission by assisting with student supervision in the Center’s in-house legal clinics and guest teaching in the Center’s seminar courses.

Qualifications:  Law school graduate within three years of graduation from an accredited law school; excellent research, writing, analytic, and communication skills; and proven commitment to public service in the area of child advocacy.  Applicants will be assessed on the extent to which they possess the vision, drive, and skills required to create and sustain the work that furthers the Barton Center’s mission.
