Housing & Transportation
Obtaining housing for the duration of the internship is the responsibility of the intern. Previous interns have been successful with social media sites such as Facebook, Craigslist, and AirBnB. Some public transportation is available beyond metro-Atlanta, but it may not provide the reliability and coverage necessary for business travel. Generally, a personal vehicle is required in those areas. MARTA public transportation can be utilized in some areas for those who live and work in the metro-Atlanta region, but a personal vehicle may still be necessary. See individual placements for any details regarding personal transportation.

Selection for Program

The Barton Child Law and Policy Center will screen applicants and match suitable applicants with three to five of the placements for interviews. All applicants will be notified via email in February 2023 regarding whether they have been selected to continue with the selection process. Not all applicants will move to the next phase of the selection process.

Applicants chosen to continue in the selection process will receive further instructions and a list of the organizations with which they have been matched for interviews.

After final matches between applicants and organizations are made, finalists will receive an email containing an offer letter by late February 2023. Please note that notification timelines may change to comply with programmatic guidelines. Changes or updates will be posted here when practical.

Each applicant will be evaluated on the following:

  • potential impact on practice or policy through his or her work over the summer;
  • apparent ability (based on qualifications and responses to the application questions) to successfully complete the program;
  • provide a benefit to a sponsoring child advocacy organization;
  • provide meaningful information to others at the conclusion of the program; and
  • ability to complete application according to instructions and in observance of deadlines.
